THERE IS NO PEACE WITHOUT VICTORY

Civilization will not last, freedom will not survive, peace will not be kept, unless a very large majority of mankind unite together to defend them and show themselves possessed of a constabulary power before which barbaric and atavistic forces will ~Winston Churchill

In a hostile world, there is no peace without victory. One of my wife's pet peeves is when someone say "literally," when they mean figuratively. Happens all the time--literally. Now, in this case, I assert that Victory and Peace go hand in hand---literally. There is no peace without victory. There is a word that sounds like peace, and it exists without victory, and that word is "appeasement."

A genuine feeling of peace comes with the security and contentment of having defeated the enemy. Surely this is why the victory sign, and the peace sign, are the same.
